The tradition of Adire dyeing goes back centuries in West Africa. The cowrie shell design on this garment showcases the cowrie’s popularity throughout ancient Africa. The shells have a deep, rich history in the African continent. Once used as a form of currency, the cowrie shells are recognized throughout the continent to represent a symbol of prosperity.
